Boy Scout Troop 491

Metairie, Louisiana

Our Sponsor

Welcome to Troop 491 of the Southeast Louisiana Council, Chitimacha District! We are locacted in Metairie, LA a community just west of New Orleans. Our chartering sponsor is Saint Clement of Rome Church. The troop was founded in 1956 and has been a real success due to the fine leadership and parental involvement. With an average registration of 35 scouts and 12 scouters, we meet on a weekly basis with the exception of holidays. The Wednesday night meetings are held at Saint Clement of Rome Parish Hall--Vosbein Hall--from 7:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Our uniform requirements have been casual.

With outdoor activities planned monthly, we keep in mind our summer activities of high adventure, thus we explore the skills of camping and backpacking. Our local summer camp is held at "V-Bar" in Mississippi but most of our Summer camps and merit badge camps are help by the Pine-Buff Boy Scout Council at Tiak just outside of Wiggins Mississippi. All our hikers enjoy their past and upcomming trips to Philmont which we will attend again this year 2008. All our web-footed scouts will set sail for Florida Sea Base again this year. They will enjoy sailing, swimming, and snorkeling at that facility. Last year 2007 the troop make a trip to the Continantial Divide in Colorada where they camped for a week high in the mountains. This Year we will be venturing to Kentucky to camp at the Red River Gorge for rock climbing and white water rafting. Our troop tries to keep physically strong by enjoying all the outdoor activities planned.
