Boy Scout Troop 491
Metairie, Louisiana 70002
Welcome to Troop 491 of the Southeast
Louisiana Council, Pelican District! We are locacted in Metairie,
LA a community just west of New Orleans. Our chartering sponsor is Saint
Clement of Rome Church. The troop was founded in 1965 and has been
a real success due to the fine leadership and parental involvement. With
an average registration of 35 scouts and 12 scouters, we meet on a weekly
basis with the exception of holidays. The Wednesday night meetings are
held at Saint Clement of Rome Parish Hall--Vosbein Hall--from 7:30 P.M.
to 9:00 P.M. Our uniform requirements are noted on the Calendar. Class A's during the cold months and Class B's during the Summer.
The outdoor activities are planned by the PLC. All the outdoor activities prepare the boys and leaders for two major activities.
The first activity is Summer Camp, the second is the high adventure trip. The first, Summer Camp, focuses the boy on developing
and learning skill by earning Merit Badges. The second, High Adventure, develops skills in camping and backpacking.
The New Orleans Scout summer camps are held at "Salmon V-Bar scout reservation" in Mississippi. In addition,
our troop will attend different summer camps. We have attended the Mississippi Summer camp in Wiggans Mississippi called Tiak.
Our past high adventure trips in the past have been:
Philmont,
Sea Base in the Florida Keys,
Continantial divide in Colorada,
White water Rafting in the Acooie River and backpacking in Sepsse nation park.
Always check our Calendar for the upcoming events!
We are back to School the summer has ended.
The troop is in the swing of things. For fall, winter and spring: we encourage all scouts to come to the
meetings dressed in their Class A Scout uniforms.
